Lady Gaga is a MONSTER
April 29, 2010I haven’t met anyone who’s neutral on the topic of Lady Gaga; either you think she’s awesome, or you hate her. Some people consider hate a strong word, and hopefully you do so that when I say I hate Lady Gaga, you know what I mean.
What I value in performers is that on some level I relate to them. Maybe we’re both on a boat and it’s going fast, or going to bust a cap, or falling in love and that’s when the connection happens. Emotionally we’re experiencing the same roller coaster and music is the link between us. Can’t say Lady Gaga and I have ever bonded over any of her songs. When I listen to her chart topping hits Paparazzi, Bad Romance, Telephone, Poker Face, and Just Dance I hear a formulated pop song, not someone I can relate to.
The hate part of my hate comes from the fact that Lady Gaga is famous because of her performances shock value, which is something that should be reserved for circus performers. Other artists are out there who work harder, are more talented, and don’t resort to cheap tactics and those are the ones who should be appreciated. Never knowing how much of her body is going to be covered and with what can only hold attention for so long, what crazy stunt is she going to resort to next? Cover herself in fake blood onstage? Oh wait, she already did that…

I just wish some part of her was real. Maybe if she took off the wig (she has over 100) and just for a minute stepped out of the character she plays, stopped selling the image, was ordinary, I could find it in my heart to like her.
